Mike Turner Visits Troops, Refuses to Protect Them

Mike Turner, the pride of the Miami Valley, is off on another "fact finding" mission to Iraq. Seems like reciting talking points on the House floor in the dead of winter isn't exciting enough for the heir to the Voinovich Senate seat. Turner, who has never said anything which could be interpreted as personal opinion, was equally thin on his "thoughts" about the current state of the civil war in Iraq. From the Dayton Daily News:
"There are serious questions as to whether or not the new security plan will be successful. It is going to depend on the Iraqi military's ability to quell sectarian violence and to be able to hold neighborhoods"
Duh.

While Turner refuses to say anything noteworthy, his record speaks volumes :

Turner voted to continue awarding contracts to Halliburton even if the Pentagon's own audit processes found that more than $100 million of their contractor's costs in Iraq were unreasonable.

Turner opposed expanding access to the military's TRICARE health insurance program to thousands of Reservist and National Guard members, even though 20 percent of all Reservists do not have health insurance, and 40 percent of Reservists aged 19 to 35 lack health coverage.

Turner voted against granting a $1,500 bonus to every American service member serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, including National Guard and Reserve forces.

Turner said the trip to Iraq was his third as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, to assess the security situation and examine whether U.S. soldiers are receiving the support they need for the war.

Why? So he can cut it more?
He declined to say where he will visit next or when he will depart Iraq, citing security concerns...

Believe me, if my record on protecting our troops was that bad, I'd be worried about security concerns too.
